Two High Profile Celebrity Divorce Filings in First Two Weeks
2015 was a tough year for celebrity marriages and, if the first two weeks of 2016 are any indication, the trend will continue this year. Less than two weeks into the new year, at least two high-profile stars have decided to call it quits on their marriages.
- Keegan-Michael Key, star of Comedy Central’s hit series “Key and Peele” has filed papers to dissolve his 17-year-marriage to actress and dialect coach Cynthia Blaise. The divorce complaint was actually filed on New Years Eve. According to reports, the couple had been separated for a couple months before the filing. Key’s partner on the show, Jordan Peele, is taking a different path in his personal life, announcing in November that he and fellow comedian Chelsea Peretti will tie the knot this year.
- “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Yolanda Foster cited “irreconcilable differences” when filing her petition for divorce from husband David Foster, the Grammy-awarded songwriter and producer. The couple had been married four years. The Fosters announced the separation in December, but Yolanda filed papers on Monday, January 11. They had no children together.
Research shows that celebrity marriages face significantly more challenges than other relationships. A comprehensive study by the Marriage Foundation, a British think-tank, found that celebrity betrothals are twice as likely to end in divorce as other marriages. Researchers apparently followed nearly 500 famous couples between 2001 and 2010 and compared their rate of divorce to the British population as a whole. While just slightly more than one quarter (26%) of all marriages ended in divorce, one in two celebrity marriages failed to go the distance.

Divorce Epidemic : 2015 Sees Many High Profile Celebrity Splits
It’s been a tough year for celebrity marriages and relationships and the going has only gotten tougher over the last few months. Here are some of the long-term couples who have hit the skids this year.
- In June, after nearly 20 years of marriage, Working Girl Melanie Griffith split from Desperado Antonio Banderas, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple’s daughter is now 18, so there won’t be any custody or child support disputes. Griffith will reportedly receive approximately $65,000 of spousal support per month
- The same month, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner announced that they had separated. Both parties denied the much-publicized rumor that Affleck had been involved in an affair with the couple’s nanny. The couple still appear to be living together, raising their three children, but friends say the divorce is moving forward.
- Famed musician Mick Fleetwood, of super-group Fleetwood Mac, will “go his own way” after two decades of marriage, after his third marriage, to Lynn Frankel, ended this year. The divorce was finalized in November. The couple have twin girls. Custody arrangements have not been made public.
- In August, No Doubt vocalist Gwen Stefani filed a divorce complaint, seeking to end her 13-year marriage to fellow musician Gavin Rossdale. Stefani told reporters that she and Rossdale remained “partners in parenthood” and would work together to raise their three sons. Stefani has since moved in with country music star Blake Shelton, who ended his four-year marriage to singer Miranda Lambert earlier this year. Friends say Shelton reneged on a promise to Lambert to have children together.
- Just before Christmas, Django Unchained and Revenge of the Nerds star Robert Carradine filed for divorce from his wife, Edith, after 25 years together. According to court papers, Carradine is asking his ex to pay him spousal support.
